In 2015, schoolgirls were still discouraged from playing, there were no good development programs, professional opportunities were scarce, and the pay was pathetic. 

It was time for a change and the country needed a leader. Brazilian soccer legend Marta Vieira da Silva, commonly known as Marta, took the field against Italy wearing lipstick. Through her style of playing and the way she carried herself, Marta gave girls permission to dream about becoming something no one had ever seen.
